It has grown on the dead ever since: a hulking mass of rot, thorned roots and poisoned moss that lumbers across its clearing. It sweeps whole bands into bramble coils and breathes out clouds of spores that choke the lungs.

Hungering on centuries of buried corpses, this wild barrow growth instinctively ensnares the strongest prey that crosses its clearing. The hulking mass of rot and poisoned moss heaves forward, driving its knotted wooden knuckles into the wet peat. Black, barbed brambles erupt in violent coils beneath the target's feet, tearing through armor with hooked thorns and binding the victim's legs in a rigid, bleeding thicket that prevents all movement.

Ever since consuming its Census keeper, the abomination festers with virulent fungal rot that bleeds into every thorny limb. Thick clusters of sickly purple and pale yellow spore pods line the creature's rotting bark and mossy ridges. Whenever its thorny boughs tear enemy flesh, the swollen pustules burst in greasy puffs, showering wounds with caustic mold that seeps under armor and burns continuously through the victim's lungs and blood.

Appearance
The thornwood abomination is a hulking plant-and-wood monstrosity elite standing nine feet tall and wide as a hay cart, grown wild in a barrow grove. It has an amorphous, hunched mass of rotting oak timber, twisted black roots, and weeping barrow moss, lacking a head except for a hollow trunk opening lined with splintered bark fangs. Its hide consists of thick sloughing bark encrusted with damp lichen and swollen clusters of sickly purple and yellow spore pods that rupture when struck. Its primary weapons are two massive, club-like boughs studded with hooked black thorns that it slams into the earth to sprout violent briar coils around prey. Pungent clouds of poisonous violet fungal spores constantly mist around its rotting flank. Palette: rotten oak brown, spore violet, moss green. Silhouette hook: a broad, lumbering mound of twisted root-wood and pulsing spore pustules.
