When the Cloudsea Host gathers to repel a band, skimmers circle overhead and loose blinding sheets of brine from their throat sacs. The stinging vapour coats eyes and slows charging boots, leaving climbers easy prey for the Reef Crushers rising behind them.

Adapted to skate across the cloud tops like water striders, the brineskimmer defends its flock from encroaching climbers on the sea shelves. Hovering on translucent ribbed wings, the beast inflates the fleshy, pale blue sacs along its throat. It exhales a wide, hissing cone of pressurized sea brine, stinging eyes with salty vapor and drenching boots to slow the advance of enemy ranks.

The brineskimmer is an agile winged aquatic beast the size of a hunting falcon, adapted to skate across the cloud tops like a water strider. It possesses a slender, aerodynamic body with a pointed beak-like snout, four elongated needle-thin landing legs tipped with hydrophobic pads, and two pairs of translucent ribbed wings. Its smooth hide is covered in fine, iridescent scales of sea-green and silver, with two distended, pale-blue throat sacs hanging beneath its jaw. It uses no manufactured weapons, relying on its pressurized throat sacs to expel hissing cones of stinging brine and salt vapour to blind climbers and slow their charge across wet shelves. A fine shimmering mist of salty spray trails behind its fluttering wings. Palette: sea green, brine silver, pale azure.
